A.38 — World's Major Industrial Regions
Contemporary Industrial Fact: According to the latest UNIDO 2026 assessment, the gravity of global manufacturing is continuously shifting towards Asia-Pacific. In 2025, high-income industrial countries accounted for about 51.5% of global manufacturing value-added, while East Asia and the Pacific region remains a major dynamic centre.
1. Meaning of Industry
Industry is that economic activity in which goods are produced or processed using raw materials, labour, capital, energy and technology.
Industrial activities can broadly be understood at three levels:
Primary Industry: Direct exploitation of natural resources. E.g., mining, fishing, forestry etc.
Secondary Industry: Processing and manufacturing of raw materials. E.g., iron and steel, textiles, machinery, chemicals, automobiles etc.
Tertiary Sector: Services. E.g., transport, banking, trade, communication etc.
